24th Knocknacarra Galway Scout Group


The 24th Galway Scout Group was set up in 1996. It is part of Scouting Ireland ■ link»click!

Today it is a very active group with over 90 beavers, cubs, scouts, ventures, leaders and parents committee.

Weekly Meetings are held in Knocknacarra

We have group affiliation with the Galway Bay Sailing Club and have accommodation in the Galway Ocean Sports Club located in Galway Harbour

Our scouts and ventures -
Traditional Scouting Activities -camping, hiking, pioneering, bivouacking, cooking , outdoor and survival skills, first aid, etc
Water Based Activities – sailing, windsurfing , kayaking, powerboating, etc

CUB SCOUTS

Ages 8yrs to 11yrs (Currently there is a waiting list to join)

Last Year the Cubs went on hikes to Maumeen and the Hill of Doon. We learnt First Aid, some knots and all the pack compleated their World Conservation badge, Cll Niall O Brolair presented cubs with badges. We finished the year with 2 days camping at Petersburg (Lough Mask) where cubs walked a gorge and completed the obstacle course.

SCOUTS

Ages 12yrs to 15yrs (Places Available).

Meeting Friday night 7.30pm to 9pm

2009/2010 - Sailing Training,8 of our Scouts have achieved Level 2, two Scouts and one Leader have gained Level 3. At our Friday Night Meetings we had two night hikes with torches, and three trips to Barna Woods for wide games, fire lighting, and cooking. The troop climbed a mountain (350 mtrs) near Mamms Cross. There was an 8hr hike over the Burren with the Patrol Leaders. Then the Patrol Leaders lead a 4 hr hike for the Troop across the Burren. The troop climbed one of the 12 Pins (500 mtrs) as part of the County Hike.
