Spirit of Ireland (1036 views)

Spirit of Ireland is a volunteer project which deserves all the support we can give it. Basically, a group of scientists and professors etc got together to discover how they could help Ireland to get back on its feet. The came up with a very unique project and I will try to explain it . Turbine wind power is great, but only good when the wind is blowing, and the energy cannot be stored....well it can in batteries, but it would take millions of them! Anyway, the plan is to locate wind turbines along the west coat and near natural valleys which were created during the ice age. These valleys (using just two of 50 identified) are used by damming the mouth, using wind to drive the turbines to pump water from the sea into the valley , then release it slowly during the times as the power is generated and required. (ESB Tourlough Hill is based on exactly the same system...they pump the water at night when there is small demand for electricity , then release it during the day to add power to the generator. Spirit of Ireland will create thousands of Irish jobs, give us enough power to run the country and sell some to the continent, and reach our target for energy conservation without too much problem. Please go to their website at ■ link»click! and give your support so that they can approach the government with the backing of the Irish people!
